Rhinoplasty (Nose Reshaping)

Rhinoplasty IllustrationReshaping of the nose, technically called rhinoplasty, can improve a nose that is too long or wide, or remove a bump on the nose. Rhinoplasty has also helped our Pittsburgh and Youngstown area patients who suffer from breathing and sinus problems as a result of obstructions in the nasal passage.

Rhinoplasty at our Pittsburgh area office is often performed in conjunction with reconstructive surgery to eliminate blockage inside the nose - this operation is called septorhinoplasty. Septorhinoplasties may be partially covered under your medical insurance. Prior to rhinoplasty surgery, our physician will evaluate the structure of your nose and address all of your questions. The procedure can be performed on an outpatient basis at Noble House or in the hospital. At your rhinoplasty consultation, we will review anesthesia and determine the best option for you.

Rhinoplasty Recovery

A small splint will be placed on the outside of the nose for five to seven days. In addition, a light dressing may be applied internally. After the rhinoplasty procedure, patients can expect some swelling and bruising of the nose and eyelids. The swelling usually will diminish within the first few days, and the bruising will subside within a couple of weeks. Patients may experience minor discomfort after rhinoplasty surgery, but will be prescribed medication to alleviate any pain.

Rhytidectomy ( Facelift)

Rhytidectomy IllustrationAs people get older, exposure to the sun and the natural aging process can cause wrinkles or sagging skin on the face and neck area. A facelift at our Pittsburgh area office can diminish the signs of aging and create a more youthful and vibrant appearance.

The best candidate for a facelift is a man or woman who still has elasticity and a well-defined bone structure. Although facelift can be performed at virtually any adult age, the majority of facelift procedures performed at our Pittsburgh area facility are on patients between the ages of 40 and 60. Our physician will examine your skin, facial features and underlying bone structure, and advise you on whether the surgery would be right for you. The facelift operation can be performed at our Pittsburgh area office or at the hospital as an outpatient procedure. At your consultation, we will discuss anesthesia and decide the best option for you.

Facelift Recovery

Patients usually experience slight discomfort after facelift surgery, but pain medication will be prescribed. Some people experience numbness in areas of the skin, which should subside in a few weeks or months. The face is usually wrapped in bandages, which are removed in one to three days. The face may look puffy, pale or bruised at first, but will gradually return to normal over a few weeks. Makeup can usually be applied after about a week.

Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery) & Forehead Lifts

Blepharoplasty IllustrationAge, overexposure to the sun and heredity can cause the eyelids to droop or form puffy bags under the eyes. Sagging eyelids can make you look older, tired or sad. In some cases, sagging eyelids can even obstruct vision. A blepharoplasty operation at our office in New Castle (near Youngstown and Pittsburgh) is performed on both the upper and lower eyelids to remove excess skin and protruding fatty tissue, creating a more youthful, rested appearance.

The ideal candidates for blepharoplasty are physically healthy men and women ages 35 and over. However, if drooping eyelids are hereditary, some people decide to have this procedure at a younger age.

Sometimes drooping eyelids are caused by the relaxation of the eyebrows and forehead. If this is the case, a forehead lift may be recommended by our New Castle staff. A forehead lift elevates the eyebrows and the forehead, minimizing forehead wrinkles and frown lines.

Before treatment, our physician will discuss your expectations and examine your facial features to determine what type of surgery is right for you.

A blepharoplasty and forehead lift can be performed at our New Castle office near Youngstown and Pittsburgh or at the hospital and we can perform the operations separately or together. At your consultation, we will discuss which anesthesia method will work best for you.

Blepharoplasty and Forehead Lift Results

Makeup usually can be applied five to seven days after the surgery. Some patients experience mild discomfort after the surgery, but this can be remedied with pain medication.

Otoplasty (Ear Reshaping)

Otoplasty IllustrationOtoplasty is the plastic surgery procedure that changes the appearance of the ear. Otoplasty usually is performed to correct protruding ears.

For adults, otoplasty operations can be performed at Noble House; however, young children will have the surgery performed in the hospital.

At your consultation, we will review anesthesia and decide on the best option for you.

Otoplasty Recovery

After surgery, a soft bandage is usually worn for two to three days. Patients may be advised to wear a headband for a month while sleeping. Patients may feel mild discomfort for about a week after surgery, but medication will be prescribed to alleviate any pain.

Cheek and Chin Implants

Cheek/Chin Implants - IllustrationTwo of the chief elements of facial harmony are cheekbone prominence and jaw line definition. Cheek and chin implants offered at our New Castle practice can change the basic shape and balance of the face to enhance cheekbone definition or accentuate the jaw line. Prior to surgery, our physician will discuss which type of procedure would most enhance the contours of your face.

Patients often choose to have chin implants at our New Castle office along with a submenal lipectomy to remove excess fat or a "double chin". Combining the two procedures significantly enhances results.

Cheek and chin implants can be performed on an outpatient basis at Noble House or in the hospital. At your consultation, we will review anesthesia procedures and decide which method will work best for you.

Chin and Cheek Implants Recovery

Patients sometimes experience soreness, temporary swelling and/or bruising. Any mild discomfort can be remedied with prescribed pain medication.

Chemical/Laser Peels

Chemical/Laser Peels - IllustrationAging and overexposure to the sun can cause wrinkles around the eyes, above the upper lip or all over the facial area. Chemical/laser peels eliminate years of aging or sun damage by removing the top layers of skin so that new, rejuvenated skin can grow in its place.

It is important to note that chemical peels are not a substitute for facelift. Patients with loose skin usually require facelift surgery. It is common for our Pittsburgh area office to perform chemical and laser peels after a facelift to remove the remaining wrinkles and fine lines.

Chemical/laser peels can be applied on the entire face or on specific areas, such as around the eyes or the mouth. Our physician will advise you on whether you need a full facial peel or treatment in a smaller area.

Many times, sedation is not required for a partial chemical peel. However, patients who receive a full chemical/laser peel usually receive a mild sedative.

Chemical and Laser Peel Recovery

After the chemical/laser peel, an ointment will be applied to protect the skin surface and keep it replenished. Some swelling, redness and crusting will occur. The crusting and swelling will usually subside in seven to 10 days. Afterwards, new, delicate skin will surface with reduced wrinkles. During this period, the redness will gradually improve, but can last for months.
